Definitions


AGA – The American Go Association is a legally registered 501(c)(4) in the state of New York.  This code of conduct applies to all AGA-affiliated events.


AGA affiliated – An affiliated event is an event or online space that the AGA has organized or has been organized by an official AGA Chapter.


Official – Any AGA, U.S. Go Congress, or tournament official empowered to make decisions in the relevant context. Officials may include but are not limited to the AGA President and AGA officers and coordinators, the Chairperson and members of the Board of Directors of the AGA, U.S. Go Congress Directors and their deputies, tournament directors, and chapter leaders.  


U.S. Go Congress – The U.S. Go Congress is the premier annual go event in North America.  This residential event includes many attendees of diverse backgrounds who play in many tournaments and attend many go-related events.  As a multi-day residential experience, the possibilities for many different types of conduct, both licit and illicit, is greater at this event than any other.  


The AGA Code of Conduct Committee – In this document, “Committee” refers to the specific group designated by the AGA President and approved by the AGA Board to administer the Code of Conduct, take complaints of infringement, and act to resolve such complaints. This Committee may consist of the AGA President and/or Chairperson of the Board of Directors,  the Coordinator for Diversity and Inclusion, the event or tournament director, and one or more persons chosen for their experience or to represent at-risk groups.


Persons from protected classes – Persons who are at particular risk for discrimination or harassment due to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national or ethnic origin, immigration status, age, status as an individual with a disability, medical condition, marital status, protected veteran status, genetic information, or physical appearance.


Consent – Consent is the agreement of all involved parties to a particular activity, event, or situation. Only affirmative consent constitutes consent (“yes means yes”), and this standard will be rigorously applied, particularly in situations related to sexual activities or content.


Harassment – Harassment is any behavior that is unwelcomed, and after being told to stop, continues to occur. Harassment includes severe, pervasive, or recurring verbal or physical conduct, whether communicated in person or through the use of technology, that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment for the recipient.
