The 2023 U.S. Go Congress is now just over a week away, starting Saturday, July 8 and running through the following Saturday, July 15, at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. There’s still time to be part of the biggest event on the annual North American Go calendar; click here for details and to register.
CONGRESS SWAG: New this year, Go Congress swag featuring Mike Samuel’s cool guitar logo is available online. “We are not supplying any drinkware this year,” says Congress Director Steve Zilber. “If people want mugs and water bottles with the Go Congress guitar logo, they can order what they want and have it delivered directly to them. We also are offering expanded apparel offerings, beyond the white T-shirt everyone will get in their swag bag.” Order before July 4th and get 15% off; items include caps, hoodies, baseball t-shirts, bucket hats, magnets and even an apron.
GAME RECORDERS WANTED: You don’t have to be a 7-dan to get to a top board at the Go Congress; the E-Journal broadcast team is looking for a few good game recorders to join the team. You must have your own laptop and be available during U.S. Open rounds. Email journal@usgo.org for details if interested.
TENNIS (AND PICKLEBALL): As usual, EJ Managing Editor Chris Garlock will be hosting tennis sessions each afternoon for those looking to get some exercise and have some off-board fun. This year he’ll be offering pickleball as well; bring your own racquets and paddles (note there will be a cost for access to the courts). Email Chris at journal@usgo.org if interested.
