120 players competed in the All Japan Ladies Amateur Championship. The three day event concluded on April 3 with the crowning of champion Yoshiko Tōzawa 4d.
On April 5, Rin Kaihō Meijin defeated Hashimoto Utarō 9d to win the Pro Best Ten tournament with a 3-1 score. (Game record available here.)
The 6th British Go Congress took place during the second week of April. Despite the northern location in Edinburgh, 61 players attended. Ku Dae-Yeol, a journalist with the Korea Times, scored a perfect 7-0 record. British Champion Jon Diamond was second with 6-1. Both Tony Goddard 4d and Andrew Daly 2d finished with 5 wins and were to have a playoff for the right to challenge Diamond for the British Championship.
From April 20 to 23 the Golden Dragon Team Tournament was held in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia. 20 teams participated from throughout Europe with the home team taking the honors.
The 2nd International Amsterdam Championship was held from April 28 to 30. Max Rebattu won the event, and Max Euwe, President of the World Chess Federation, attended.
