Senior Kitani disciple Ōtake Hideo 9d began his challenge for the Meijin title, against Ishida Meijin-Hon'inbō. Ōtake prevailed in Game One, on September 10 and 11. The champion evened the score in the second game on September 25 and 26. (Game records: Game One, Game Two.)


On September 28, teaching professional Sen Suzuki opened a Nihon Ki'in chapter in Copenhagen, Denmark.


That same day, the first Connecticut Open took place. The winner of the open section was H. Lee of New York. The A section was one by C. Schra. The B section ended in a tie without detail.
