HONOLULU, HI — Hawaii Go-Baduk Camps, a newly formed nonprofit organization, is preparing
to launch an international youth Go camp in Honolulu and is seeking community support to help establish the program.
The organization, founded by Myungwan Kim 9p, a Korean professional now based in Honolulu, and Sidney Kobashigawa 6d, president of the Honolulu Go Club, aims to promote Go among young players by hosting an annual camp open to youth worldwide.
The first Hawaii Go Camp is planned for July 2026 at the Pagoda Hotel in Honolulu. The eight-day camp will feature lectures, problem-solving sessions, game reviews, and competition, with instruction from professional players. Organizers say the camp will also provide opportunities for youth from different countries to meet and build friendships through Go.
Unlike many existing Go camps that primarily serve adults, the Hawaii Go Camp will focus specifically on youth participants. Organizers hope to attract players from the United States, Canada, Japan, China, and Korea, with plans to expand internationally in future years.
Hawaii Go-Baduk Camps recently received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and is raising funds to support startup costs, including venue rental, equipment, instructor travel, and program expenses. Organizers said community contributions will help establish the camp during its early years as it works toward long-term sustainability.
