The competition was fierce on Monday at the 2024 North American Go Federation Pro Qualification Tournament in Montreal, as top Go players from across the continent battled to make the cut for the semi-finals, which begin Wednesday morning.
In Group A, Bill Lin booked his berth in the semis with his fourth straight win Monday afternoon, besting Joel Kenny in a long and complex game. That makes the fifth-round game on Tuesday morning between Kenny (2-2) and Michael Xu (3-1) the key to Group A’s second seat in the semi’s.
In Group B, there’s a three-way tie for the top two slots, with Guanyu Song, Sen Zhan and Eric Yoder all 3-1. Unlike in Group A, the fifth-round matches may not be definitive; depending on the results, there may need to be playoffs Tuesday afternoon to determine the group winner.
